In Western Ethiopia, in the Jimma Zone near Agaro lies the smallholding of Mustafa Abakeno. Planted with Heirloom varieties from the Jimma research centre, Mustafa has taken steps to mitigate the impact of low water levels in the region, using disc-pulpers and drying beds to process his crop and that of his neighbours.

Working alongside the importers and their local agronomist Harun, farm education and training has helped to improve quality across the board, from tagging individual lots that isolate outstanding offerings, to installing shade netting for drying beds during the hottest hours of the day.
